Is this correct and natural?

Jack struggled to his feet and hauled himself inside the cottage. The bullet had sliced through his right shoulder blade and the wound oozed blood. Painfully, he lifted his left hand and ripped a piece of his shirt, hoping he could tie it around his shoulder to stop the bleeding. Rivulets of blood streamed down his back. They felt like insects crawling down his skin. In his daze, he searched the recesses of his mind, trying remember the face of the shooter. He looked down at the wooden floor, now dotted with drops of his blood. The room was beginning to appear fuzzy as he lost more blood yet his mind was still locked on running a search, turning up nothing. More than anything he was surprised that his old life had finally caught up with him after so long. Which one of his enemies hated him so much to have risked everything to get him?

It reads well to me.

Your changes are OK, tedmc, but they are not necessarily improvements.

Is it okay to say "a bullet sliced through a bone"?
