1. It was yesterday that I had lunch with Jimmy.
2. It was yesterday when I had lunch with Jimmy.

3. It was in the park that the old man wanted to take a rest.
4. It was in the park where the old man wanted to take a rest

5. It is in the box that I found a present.
6. It is in the box where I found a present.

7. It was a cat that I lost.
8. It was a cat which I lost.

What I'm wondering is whether sentence 2, 4, 6 and 8 are grammatical.

Especially, I want to know if 4 is interchangeable with 3.

Thank you.

I want to know if 4 is interchangeable with 3

They're not the same to me- 4 tells me which park it was in, so there must be more than one possible park.

I am not a teacher.

These pairs don't mean the same to me.

1, 3, 5, and 7 are all OK and are stand-alone statements as far as I'm concerned.

2, 4, and 6 sound more like answers to questions.

When did you find out? It was yesterday when I had lunch with Jimmy.
Where did they find the body? It was in the park where the old man wanted to take a rest.
Where did you put the key? It is in the box where I found a present.

I don't like 8.

Most of these are so unnatural unless you are correcting someone else's mis-statement. No, it wasn't at the drycleaner, it was at the park...

I agree with Roman that some sound like answers to questions.

Who would ever say "It was a cat that I lost"?

When did you lose your dog?
No, I lost my cat, not my dog.
