Is my short paragraph natural and grammatical?

It was a hectic day at work today. I was knackered and just wanted to get home. Lo and behold, when I entered the living room, all my furniture had been taken away. I stood there aghast. Someone had broken into my house through the window and had succeeded in overriding my alarm system.

I would say:

... all my furniture was gone.

Yes, but we're talking about first impressions. If somebody had taken your furniture the first thing you would notice when you got home would be that it wasn't there. Then you might get around to thinking it had probably been stolen.

That didn't really happen, did it?

Ah! Gotcha.

No, that didn't happen. Thank God!

You probably already know this, but burglars normally look for things that are portable and that they can easily sell. That would not include furniture.

I know only one person who came home to find that all their furniture had vanished. It turned out that it was his partner who had cleaned out the house while my friend was at work. She'd done a runner with the contents of the house and with their daughter!
