Is this correct sentence?

A work might have finished by now. That is what I wish to say.

A job might have been finished by now. That is what I wish to say.

"A work" doesn't work in your sentence.
Perhaps you meant to say,
"The work might have finished by now."
 
'A work might have been finished by now' is wrong while 'A job might have been finished by now' is right.

Could anyone tell me the reason?
 
'Work' is uncountable, while 'job' is countable.
 
They may have finished the work/job by now would work.
