Hi,

Is there a word for people who pretend to be rich? Thank you.

I think imposter comes closest to it. There is also fraud, and there is pretender.

"Show-offs" or "exhibitionists", those who try to give people the impression that they are rich.

None of those suggestions is restricted to people who pretend to be rich.

I know that. That's why I used the phrase "closest to it".

I suppose ' fake rich' or 'fake rich person' would do just fine to explain it.
it is not a word though.

I am not a teacher.

[STRIKE]It is[/STRIKE] Those are not a single word though.

See above.

I'm probably about to be proved wrong, but I don't think there is a specific word for someone who pretends to be rich. Out of curiosity, Jackson6612, is there a word in Hindi for it?

Thank you.

There isn't a specific word but there are few slang terms in Hindi which could convey the idea.

I can't think of a single word for it, but there are plenty of phrases. Depending on context, you could try:

- a social climber
- a society poser
- all hat and no cattle (strictly a Texas-ism)
- the fake rich
- the pseudo-rich
- the faux-riche
- a social gatecrasher
- a gentleman crook
- a social pretender (used as the name of a popular rock band)
