"News was released about the hostage." This is quite confusing sentence. And it feels quite strange to me.
I think the sentence is talking information(news) about the hostage.
But is it grammatical to write sentence like "News was released about the ~"?

Re: Is it grammatical to write sentence like "News was released about the ~"

It sounds perfectly natural to me. The word "news" is a very specific one, it does not just mean "information".

Is it correct if I understand the sentence "News was released about the hostage." means "News about the hostage was released."?
