But how did this happen in the first place, and is frozen fruit actually any good for us?

What's the difference in meaning if I remove "any"?

Please add the name of the author of the article to the source line. It wasn't written by the whole BBC! Also note that I have moved the source information to directly under the quote. That's where it should always appear.

Using "any" suggests that the answer could be "It's 99% bad for you but at least it's 1% good for you!" It's almost suggesting, in a roundabout way, that there might be absolutely nothing useful about frozen fruit.
If you remove "any", the simple answer could be "Yes" or "No".

It is scripted and presented by Cherry Stewart-Czerkas.

Question: Is frozen fruit good for us?
Answer: Why wouldn't it be?

As has already been mentioned, the word "any" suggests the answer. It indicates the person thinks it isn't much good, and they want you to agree with them. (My opinion.)

A skeptic would ask that, but I am not sure if the degree of doubt is as high as 99%.
