Hi, everyone. By 'investment/investments', I mean tuition fees. Should I use it countably or uncountably?

If universities do not equip students with the skills needed to find a job, students' investments/investment would not be worthwhile.

Use the plural form to agree with plural use of students. There are multiple students and therefore multiple investments.

Isn't "If..., ...would..." very common?

You've got a mixed first/second conditional. Given that universities are doing this, I see no need for the second half to be hypothetical.
