Independent of

Does "independent of" sound idiomatic?
Context: I am sharing my opinion in a conversation with a friend. I mean some circumstances can't be controlled by people.
"Some circumstances are independent of human control."

It's OK but you'd more commonly hear "Some things are outside human control".

Or: Some things are beyond human control.

There are some things that people just have no control over.
