Which preposition should be used with gazebo? In or under?

She was sitting in the gazebo/under the gazebo.

What I find confusing is that gazebos have roofs and there are types which have screens and only one side open that's used as entrance and exit.

I would say "in a gazebo" if I had to talk about it. It's an enclosed space.

Most gazebos I've seen have a roof but open sides so I'd use "under".

Thank you. But there are gazebos that are only open on one side which is kind of like the entrance and exit and the other sides have screens. Would you say in a gazebo if you came across such a gazebo?

If it had three enclosed sides, I'd probably say "in" but it's not impossible that I'd still say "under", because the main benefit of a gazebo is that it protects you (from above) from the sun/rain.

I would probably go with "in," but it works either way.

I'd use 'in' since the gazebo by design is boxlike, whether the sides are closed or not.
