Dear Teachers and Friends:

In an academic writing, is it professional if imperative sentences are often used?

Ex:

- Now, consider this case...

- Deduce this equality from....

In addition, is it good to replace imperative sentences by "It is to + v"?

Ex:

- It is to consider this case....

- Now, it is to investigate....

Thank you in advance for your idea!:-D

It has been a long time since I have read academic writing and have never written it.

However, I don't recall being instructed by the author to do anything in an imperative. I can imagine it being used in popular science type publications - magazines aimed at the amateur astronomer or sociologist, etc.
