I'm your friend, Tom.

Is this sentence natural and idiomatic? If not, how should I correct it?

In what circumstances would you wish to say those words?

I suppose this is possible. (See below.)

Ron: Who are you?
Tom: I am your friend, Tom.
Ron: I don't have any friends named Tom.

I think Tom's response would be more likely to be something like this:

Ron: Who are you?
Tom: Tom! From Midvale High. Don't you remember me?
