My first work experience was not satisfying in terms of the kind of work I did. Before I was promoted to a position in the IT department, I worked in the Customer Technical Support department for about a year.

....I have been working in the Customer Technical Support department for about a year.

Which of the underlined part is correct?

I think the past perfect can be used in 'I had worked in the Customer Technical Support department for about a year when I was promoted to the IT department'.
