2) I wonder how she ended up married to an old man who looks old enough to be her dad.
Father is a better choice than dad.

Thank you, Gil. The rule as it says in the quotation is that any verb comes immediately after end up, it should end in gerund, shouldn't it, please?
No. Both Gillnettetter's versions are correct.

I think 'dad' is fine in most contexts.

I think that "married" in Gillnetter's second example is a verbal adjective -- not a verb. That would be the reason why the rule you have in mind does not apply.
