Most people would understand 'I'll be forty-two next month'.

Most people would write 42 instead of "forty-two" -- we usually write out numbers up to ten.

I love teaching future tenses-- they're incredibly confusing and detailed and strange. But, the good thing is you usually have lots of different choices and the differences are very small.

We rarely say the whole word "will," but rather I'll, you'll, it'll, etc. (Practice pronouncing it'll "it- ull" so it comes naturally.)

With your question, "going to" is almost never wrong. And if you're just talking about the future, as in a monologue, it's probably best.
"Will" is very common when you're reacting to someone or something. The doorbell rings: "I'll get it!"

So in this case, "I'm going to be 42" sounds like this is the first sentence in a conversation.
"I'll be 42" sounds like someone else just said that they'd be 39 or something, and you're reacting to it.

But, the difference is very small, and both are correct.
