Hi,

I am really confuse when to use have or had.

For instance.

I should say :
he has completed the task or he had completed the task

we have updated or we had updated ?

Please advise. I really can't differentiate when to use had or both are grammatically correct?

Thank you

Both are grammatically correct, but are used in different situations

he has completed the task or he had completed the task "He has completed the task" = the task has been completed at some unspecified time in the past, it is now complete.
"He had completed the task" this needs some more information, such as "before I arrived" ' He had completed the task before I arrived" this means: I arrived in the past, before my arrival he had completed the task.

we have updated or we had updated ? The same applies here.
