[Grammar] I gave him a bunch of bananas. Which is the direct object, bunch or bananas?

IMHO:

I = subject.

gave = verb.

him = indirect object.

a = adjective/ determiner.

bunch = direct object.

of bananas = prepositional phrase that modifies "bunch."

("of" = preposition; "bananas" = object of the preposition.)

Thanks a lot! I was thinking the same thing but then our teacher has a different idea, but really I think you're correct based on my previous readings.

How about this: I wrote a letter to him. Is ' to him' the indirect object? Shouldn't it be the object of the prep.?
