Hello, Do I need use 'by'? Sometimes it seems only the gerund is needed and sometimes 'by'. Could you please explain?

1- Yesterday I swam for the first time. I enjoyed a lot (by) doing so.

2- You have broken the traffic rule (by) riding the bike at overspeed.
 
Yesterday I swam for the first time. I enjoyed it a lot.

You have broken the traffic rule by driving too fast.

2- You have broken the traffic rule law by riding the bike at overspeed. speeding on your bike.
 
As you said, my examples are not right. Could you please provide some examples explaining the difference?
