I'd like to know if it's possible to use "That" instead of "If" when using "care" and "mind".


  1. "I don't care that he stays here "
  2. "I don't mind if he stays here."
 
It's possible, but the meaning changes.
 
In case it wasn't clear from 5jj's post, the meaning changes quite drastically:

I don't care that he stays here = He actually stays here and I don't care about that.
I don't care if he stays here = I don't care whether he stays here or not.

Not a native speaker nor an English teacher.
