I always have had a problem in understanding the meaning of "miss"

Does it mean "fail to understand" or does it mean "feel sad for"?
OneLook's results helped not.

Context:

Reading some of these replies, I feel like "People really believe that? It sounds like a fairy tale". But at the same time, I sometimes miss believing in it, myself. But it just doesn't make sense. Hopefully if a God exists, he'll understand. And also be able to thoroughly defend/explain his apparent absence and lack of ungarbled communication...
