Is this sentence correct? "In a startling example of the polarities that exist within the same system..."

I'm not sure how to use the word "polarities". Is there a better way to talk about two extremes found in the same system?

Thanks

It's a pity you've truncated the sentence before describing the polarities. It would naturally be easier to tell you if you've used it correctly if we knew what you were using it for.
