Hi all,
I am a grade 1 teacher in Mississauga, ON. I teach at a school that caters to predominantly non native speakers. My students come from different ethnicities and all struggle with pronunciation of certain words and sounds. For example, students whose first language is Urdu cannot sound out the letter w as its not existent in their native language. So instead of pronouncing water with a w they pronounce it with a v. Similarly my students who speak Arabic at home cannot pronounce p properly as they only have the b sound in Arabic.
Most of students use either gr or jr instead of dr. So they will pronounce drink as grink or jrink.
I would be grateful if someone could help me with strategies to help students improve their pronounciation.
Thanks
