How can I thank a professor for his favor?

A professor has offered me to join his research group with full financial support. How should I thank him formally and politely?

I don't think someone else can write a letter to express your gratitude better than yourself.
I sugggest you draft the letter and have it checked in the Writing and Editing Section of the forum.
