Tang is the name of an ancient dynasty in China. Are you sure the monk's name is also Tang?

We usually call this young Tang Dynasty monk "Tang Monk" or "Tang Priest".

Based on my survey there is no specific name given to the Monk. Some sources claim as "Tang" and " Monk".

Question: Can this become incomplete sentence if I omit the second line?

A monk and three disciples embark on a quest to obtain sacred Buddhist scriptures that would save China from decadence.

Have you not watched the actual movie?

Please have a look at the following information relating to this monk:

***********************************************
Xuanzang (Hsuan-tsang; Chinese: 玄奘; pinyin: Xuánzàng) is a central character in the novel Journey to the West by Wu Cheng'en. The character is based on the historical Buddhist monk Xuanzang.
He is mainly referred to as Tang Sanzang in the novel. The title Sanzang refers to his mission to seek the Sanzangjing, or the "Three Collections of (Buddhist) Scriptures". In some English translations of Journey to the West, the title is rendered as Tripitaka which is the original Sanskrit term for the Sanzangjing. He is also widely known as Tang Seng, which is a courtesy name that, like the former name, Tang Sanzang, reflects his status as an oath brother of Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty.

So, what is the name of the monk?

You can call the monk "Xuanzhang", "Tang Sanzang" or "Tang Seng", teechar. All three names are acceptable in China.

Some subtleties can get lost in translation. I saw a restaurant called The L'auberge Inn. L'auberge in French means The inn, so the English name was The the inn inn.
