Hello,

I´m currently trying to create german subtitels for the video "Suger: The bitter truth". At one point I just couldn´t understand what the speaker is saying. He talks about a substandard study and what I understand is: "... it has a hole in it as big as the one in the USS Call."

This is the link to the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBnniua6-oM . It´s in der 36th minute and 20 seconds.

I cannot figure out what he is saying. I would be very thankful if someone can help me.

Greetings

It's not an idiom. It's an analogy to the USS Cole which was bombed by terrorists. He's saying that study has an obvious gap ("hole") in it and is seriously and undeniably flawed.
