Hi,

Does permit sound natural in the following sentence?

Her parents don't let her eat beef.
Her parents don't allow her to eat beef.
Her parents don't permit her to eat beef.

What's the difference between allow and permit? Can we say they're interchangeable?

Hi.

Does "permit" sound natural in the third of the following sentences?

1. Her parents don't let her eat beef.
2. Her parents don't allow her to eat beef.
3. Her parents don't permit her to eat beef.

What's the difference between "allow" and "permit"? Can we say they're interchangeable?

QB Unnecessary. We can see your username on all your posts.
Note that I have changed your thread title. Strings of single words don't work. Always use a complete sentence. If you look at what I've changed it to, you'll see what I mean.

Note my corrections above. Always mark out the words you're asking us to look at in some way. I've put them in quotation marks. You could put them in italics.

In this context, "allow" and "permit" are interchangeable.

Noted. Thank you.
See my corrections above. It's important to end every sentence with an appropriate punctuation mark.

In future, there is no need to write a new post to thank anyone. Simply add the "Thanks" icon. If you hover your cursor over the Like button (which I can see you've already used), you'll see a string of icons. One of them is this: 🙏. That's the one you should add to a response you're grateful for.
