[General] Help me understand what it really means

Few days back we were given a task. The person who gave the task said and I quote "[COLOR=rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.8)]each day you all have to change the first letter of your name to the same thing, but it has to be different each day".
Upon discussion we stumbled on a disagreement. I think that the first sentence means that the first letter of the name could be changed to anything, it can be words, numbers or special character. But other said that it clearly means it should only be changed with 1 letter only. I want to clarify this for me where did i understand this wrong[/COLOR]
