1- He wrote me a letter saying/citing/stating his father died in an accident.
2- He wrote me a letter saying how tough his life had been.

@thehammer I have spent most of this afternoon improving your thread titles (again). Please make sure you use a complete sentence as your title. As your posts usually give us two or three sentences to look at, let's make it simple - just use whatever sentence #1 is as the title from now on.
