Could you tell me which one of the following sentences is OK?

- He took initiative and answered the teacher's questions.

- He excelled other students and answered the
teacher's questions
.

- He went ahead of other students and answered the teacher's questions.

1 and 2 are ungrammatical. 3 is grammatical but unnatural. By "He went ahead of the other students" do you mean "He answered the teacher's questions before the other students had a chance to"?

Yes. exactly.
 
He answered the teacher's questions first, beating all the other students to it.
