Which meaning of 'take' is used here?

"The obvious question thus arises: How does the system know at restart time which transactions to undo and which to redo? The answer is as follows. At certain prescribed intervals--typically whenever some prescribed number of records have been written to the log-the system automatically takes a checkpoint."An Introduction to Database Systems, 8th edition, C J Date

Since I'm not an IT expert, don't take my word for it, but I take it to mean record (verb). :)

Many thanks teacher. :)
Sorry the two 'takes' in your sentence are like 'get', right, please?
I think these 'take's are the same with the 'take' in my sentence, right?

No, Tara! All three are different. I was trying to show you how one word can have many meanings.

No. The first one means accept and the second consider.

Many thanks teacher.

The word take is one of those words with many possible uses.
