He is seeing the doctor twice a month.
He sees the doctor twice a month.

I think that both are correct. But what are the nuances attributed to each? Can 1 mean that he arranges the appointments while 2 implies a settled schedule?
 
The first suggests an arrangement of limited duration. The second does not have this suggestion.
