"I have never had that router before"

"I never had that router before"

what is the difference between I have never had and I never had

Hi, is there any difference between these? (no period ["full stop"])

"I have never had that router before."

"I never had that router before."

What is the difference between "I have never had" and "I never had"?

The first generally applies to the present; the second, to the past. We'd need complete sentences to explain the differences more fully.

Remember to end every sentence with appropriate punctuation. Always mark text that you're discussing by setting it in italics or surrounding it with quotation marks.

So, um.. basically I would say the second one if I'm referring back to a past event right?. And when do I use the first one?

For the third time, DO NOT put a full stop after a question mark.

Yeah, sorry I'll be more careful next time. So if the first one is referring to the present situation, when do I exactly use it?

Simplifying the above (by removing "never" and "before"), we get:
"I have had that router" and "I had that router". You can now see that the first suggests I currently have the router but the second doesn't. So if we go back to your sentences, we can say, e.g.,

I've never had that router before, so it'll take me a couple of days to work out how to use it.
and
I never had that router before, so I can't say if it's any good.
