Which one is correct?

1. John drank half the vodka bottle by himself.

2. John drank half of the bottle of vodka by himself.
 
Which one is correct?

1. John drank half the vodka bottle by himself.

2. John drank half of the bottle of vodka by himself.

1 is wrong. We don't say "vodka bottle" unless we're referring specifically to the bottle, not the contents. It's not possible to drink a bottle (it's glass, not liquid).
2 is OK but most native speakers would omit the first "of".
