Please read this sentence:

On my last visit to Wilton, I found that the village hadn't changed/ didn't change much.

Can you please tell me which one is correct and why? Or I can use both?
And also is this kind of sentence similar to "reported speech"? I mean what if I changed it to find? Then what will I have to fill in that place?

Thank you all in advance.

"Hadn't changed."
The idea of change is related to the time before "I found".So past perfect should be used here

On my last visit to Wilton, I found that the village hadn't changed much. This is correct.
From the previous time that you visited the village, up to the point in time that you last visited, there had been very little change.
"Find" doesn't work at all in that context.
