Had developed vs had been developing

Hello,

I’m wondering why the “had developed” part has not been changed into “ had been developing originally”. The reason I stress on this change is because of the structure of parallelism. What do you think?

The growth of commerce had brought Spaniards into contact with other societies that had developed original had been developing originally and stimulating literary traditions.

I copied it from a GMAT exam.

You incorrectly changed the adjective 'original' into an adverb.

I thought that “stimulating” was a verb and since it was preceded by “and” then any verbs coming before “and” must adopt an “ing”. That’s why I changed it to the progressive tense. Now I see the problem.
