[General] get slurry

What does "get slurry" mean?

In he sentence by Paul Auster:"Her husband helped smooth out the rough patches and keep her nighttime drinking under control (she tended to get a bit slurry when he was off on a job somewhere)."

If you get slurry, your speech becomes slurred - you pronounce words unclearly, and the words can run into each other. This is typical of someone who is getting drunk.
