Is "close" a verb in "Friends share secrets. That's what keeps them close." ?

I'm asking because "close" is pronounced a little differently when it is a verb or an adjective. One ends with a "z" sound, the other one with an "s" sounds.

That's right. "Close" is pronounced one way as a verb and another way as an adjective.
