I am talking with a friend about my travels:

Five years ago I was in China. That was the best experience I [ have ever had / had ever had ].

Which form is correct if it is still the best experience (untill now) although it was 5 years ago.

If you haven't had a better experience since then, use "the best experience I have ever had".

Both. It's the best you have had.

Ems's "ever" makes it more natural. It's the best you've ever had.

I didn't add "ever". It was in the original, in both options.

Edit: I just noticed that it wasn't in the title but it was given in the main post.
