My American editor amended the sentence 'Please fill in the blanks with what you have heard' to read 'Please fill in the blanks to what you hear'. Is this peculiar to American English?

No, it is peculiar period. Your sentence is better.

That doesn't work in AmE.

I'd use "Please fill in the blanks with what you hear".

Thank you all. The 'thank' button doesn't work for me, so I've got to post my thanks here.
