I have written a sentence below.

1) He is the undisputed head of the family and commands a lot of respect from the members of his family.

Is it grammatically incorrect to use 'family members' instead of 'members of his family' in the above sentence?
 
No, it isn't grammatically incorrect.
 
To be clear, if you want to use "family members" you need to say his family members.
