Jeremy's friends were fond of him.............. because of his generosity

A. still less
B. even less
C. not least

C is the answer here but I don't understand this sentence. What does it mean anyway? Why is C the only correct choice in this case?
Note: There is no further context. This is a standalone sentence

The correct answer is C. The sentence means that his generosity was not the least (important) reason for their liking him; in fact, it was quite an important reaon.
