What's the meaning of an expression "let's entertain the fiction that...."

as in "let's entertain the fiction that I'll win today" in a culinary competition?

'to entertain an idea' means to imagine or suppose it.
By saying "the fiction", the person is implying that he probably won't win. So it means:
Let's imagine the unlikely fact that I'll win today. or
This is improbable, but let's suppose I'll win today.
