Isn't it wrong to use "English is a language we use..." in this context and does "a huge number of people" sound natural?

"English is a very important language today. It is the/a language we use to communicate with a huge number of people on the planet. But I think everyone doesn't need to know English, because people can live and communicate in many other languages."

It doesn't sound right to me because people communicate in other languages.

Who does "we" refer to?

Your second sentence is not good. You mean this:

It is used by a huge number of people around the world.
