Hi,

I need your explanation for each of the below tenses between the brackets (Why did we use that particular tense instead of other tenses?) Please answer this question for each tense between the brackets.

Because the door (was locked), the policemen (broke) it down.


Pip (had) to find a job because the government (had taken) all the man's money.


Pip (did) not expect to work because he (had promised) a large fortune.

We don't do other people's homework here, haumran. You're a native English speaker. Think, or do some reading.
 
This is not other's people homework. I just need explanation for each tense.
 
I updated my setting; I'm not a native speaker, even native speakers do make wrong in grammar. I'm seeking advice in here.
 
The one with "had promised" is wrong.
Why don't you start by identifying the tense in each case (and fixing the one that is wrong).
