Hi to all!

I am trying to translate a novel by Jane Austen. As you see it is called "Emma". Now I want to know about several things. First of all is this line:

he was a much older man in ways than in years

I suppose that it means that his ways or manners are tranditional.
what's the meaning of it?
Please help me.

I think that he just wasn't only older, he also behaved that way. It should emphasise his maybe old fashioned behaviour, whilst his appearance wasn't so clearly indicating his age.

His way of behaving was that of an older man than he actually was. For example, perhaps he was 50. From his manner and behaviour you might have thought he was 60, or older.

what is the meaning of the sentence above which I underlined it? Please help me dear friends:up:​

The pleasant society in this context is the group of pleasant people you enjoy spending time with. The people who visit her provide her with company. That's how I interpret it.
