[Vocabulary] 'Egg' vs. 'Vague'

Hello!

I`ve been wondering as of late whether it is possible, actually if it is any common for one to pronounce the word 'egg' as one would pronounce, say, the word 'vague'?

In standard American English they do not rhyme.

But there are some accents in America in which "egg" rhymes with "vague". In some, they both end with the sound "eg"; in others (especially some Southern accents), they both end with the sound "ayg".

Here in Canada egg and vague tend to rhyme in casual speech. We usually don't enunciate clearly enough to differentiate those vowels.

Many Americans rhyme the two words.

In American English, egg can rhyme with either vague or beg.

(It looks like there are quite a few opinions here. Take your pick!)
