Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to help me to make my choice of the suited interpretation for the poly-semantic word in bold in the following sentence. In my opinion it has to be Nr. 2. Or maybe Nr.3?

The heaviest blow that the atom bomb fanatics got, however, came with the dramatic announcement that the Russians also have got the bomb.

dramatic = 1. of or relating to drama or the theater
2. arresting or forceful in appearance or effect (exciting, bright, striking, vivid)
3. sharp, significant
4. gripping, tense

Thank you for your efforts.

Regards,

V.

I would go with 3. or 4. but I'm sure someone might make a case for all four.
