Hello.

Have I used "dot" correctly and naturally?

His books dotted the dusty floor.

I want to say the books were scattered across the floor.
 
"Dotted" is used to refer to things scattered on a macro scale, not books in a room. i would replace the word with "strewn across".
 
Thanks. Let's also see what natives say.
 
Just so I'm clear, "dot" doesn't work in the sentence in post #1?
