Could you please tell me what "start me on that" means?
 
Don't start me on that means: don't raise that subject because I really don't want to talk about it right now.
 
In BrE, that's usually worded "Don't get me started on that". It can mean "If you encourage me to start talking about that, I might never stop. I have a lot to say about it!"
 
In BrE, that's usually worded "Don't get me started on that".
That's how we normally say it in American English, too.
