Don’t forget, the sandy beaches on the Black Sea and the breathtaking Danube is/are not far away.

I think it should be are, just rechecking.

Before you choose, you should find the antecedent. In this sentence, the antecedent is "the sandy beaches". And this antecedent is plural so "are" is the correct answer.

"The sandy beaches" is part of a compound subject. The other part is "the breathtaking Danube". Even if the sentence said "the sandy beach", the verb would be plural. Also, the subject of a sentence is not "the antecedent". The subject determines the number of a verb.
